My role as your personal trainer is to help remove the overwhelming aspects of a fitness regimen so that it becomes an approachable and attainable undertaking. I have extensive experience working with individuals of many different levels of ability, but I specialize in athletic performance and those who want to build upon their athletic edge. If you are looking to get out of your old fitness routine, or want a higher intensity of a workout, I combine my experience with both knowledge in exercise science, as well as a creative approach in general, to develop time efficient and productive high intensities that match your goals and ambitions.

Rick began exercising at age ten by lifting scrapes of steel (in place of dumbbells and barbells) that his uncle brought home from his factory job. This marked the beginning of his quest for the fitness Holy Grail. Fifty-five years later, the quest continues. The journey has traveled through the worlds of bodybuilding, power lifting, martial arts, distance running, cycling and a thirty year long involvement with rowing. All of this “doing stuff” was supported by a life long study of exercise physiology, bio-mechanics, exercise program design and nutrition.
Rick is currently certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), Russian Kettlebell Certified (RKC), Certified Kettlebell - Functional Movement Screen (CK-FMS) and World Kettlebell Club - Fitness Instructor, Lifting Coach, Strength Specialist, Kettlebell Competition Coach (WKC) and is one of just a handful of Master Trainers in the United States for 10 times Kettlebell Lifting Champion and Honored Master of Sport, Valery Fedorenko
Rick also has extensive study in Low Back Disorder and Exercise, and also has a focus on training the Aging Active Adult.

Training Philosophy: I firmly believe that every training session should be challenging, yet fun, have variety in the exercises performed, and produce the desired results in a safe manner. I try to make every training session a functional, full-body workout utilizing such conditioning devices as dumbbells, resistance bands, stability balls, slide board, medicine balls, kettlebells, FreeMotion machines and even the client's own body weight. My training philosophy and methods challenge my clients to go above and beyond their initial expectations.
I graduated from IUPUI with a Bachelors of Science degree in Physical Education-Emphasis in Exercise Science. During an internship at St. Vincent Sports Performance Center, I had the opportunity to work with athletes in various sports from middle school through the collegiate level and professional athletes as well. I then personal trained at another fitness center for nearly a year, where I enjoyed a strong rapport with clientele that included teenagers, middle-aged couples, athletes, as well as seniors.

I have a B.S. in Nutrition from Michigan State University and hold certifications from ACSM in Personal Training and Level 1 Coaching from USA Triathlon. I work with anyone looking to CHALLENGE themselves to get stronger, fitter, and achieve a goal.
I have been involved in sports since childhood. I have always looked for ways to make myself a stronger, faster and better athlete. While at MSU, I accomplished many of my goals as a basketball player. I finished my college career as the school's all-time leader for points and rebounds. After college, I went to Sweden and played basketball professionally for more than four years.
I coached basketball at Michigan Tech University and IUPUI for a combined 14 years. As the needs of my family (husband Rick and sons Ethan and Isaac) changed, I transitioned into fitness. My passion for fitness has never wavered. I enjoy investigating the newest fitness trend to make you function better and look your best.
Kris is the creator and instructor of the "Core and More" class at NIFS and developed and leads the NIFS Triathlon Training Program.

Mens sana in corpore sano is a famous Latin quotation often translated as, "A sound mind in a sound body." Personal Training is my passion. I will push you to your personal best so you will get the results you want and learn how to become a master of your own body. I was born and raised in Germany and I have a Bachelors Degree as a Fitness Economist. It's a mix of the Bachelor of Sports Management and Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science. I came to the United States in 2008 and have been working as a trainer and group fitness instructor most of my life.
